Michael Reed
Head Coach · Professional Player · Club Director
Michael Reed is one of Nashville's most decorated soccer figures — a former professional captain whose playing career took him across three continents and placed him among the highest level of competition the game has to offer. He served as Nashville SC's first ever captain, captained San Antonio FC and Memphis 901 FC, and competed at the professional level across the USL and beyond for over a decade.
Michael's playing career was genuinely global. He played professionally in Turkey and Sweden, and competed internationally against players from Italy, Spain, Sweden, Scotland, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, China, and across Africa — the full spectrum of the world game. On the domestic stage, he shared the pitch with and against some of the most recognizable names in the sport, including Didier Drogba, Ashley Cole, Landon Donovan, and Tim Howard — one of the greatest goalkeepers in U.S. soccer history. He was also coached by Gary Smith, the MLS Cup-winning manager, whose influence shaped Michael's deep understanding of the game at the highest level.
Since retiring, Michael has extended that elite standard into his coaching — working with professional women's players competing in the NWSL, Super League, Swedish Premier League, German Bundesliga, and Australian First Division, as well as players on Women's National Teams and collegiate athletes across NCAA Division I, II, and III. The breadth of competition Michael has experienced — across three continents, multiple leagues, and both the men's and women's game — is what makes every session at The Swarm unlike anything else available in Nashville.
Since retiring, Michael has channeled that experience into building programs from the ground up. He is the founder and creator of Soliaya FC (Florida) and Beaman FC — now operating as Tempo — and serves as Director of Music City FC (450+ players). Internationally, he has worked with Everton FC's academy (U7–U16) and collaborated with Plymouth Argyle FC's professional men's and women's sides in England.
Michael's approach is simple: bring the highest educated, most intentional coaching to every single athlete — youth or pro, beginner or elite. A constant student of the global game, always growing, always learning.

Matheus Tonon
Co-Coach · Brazilian International
Matheus Tonon — known to everyone as Mata — grew up in the streets of São Paulo, Brazil and made the journey to the United States to pursue higher education without ever letting go of the game. That combination of hunger, discipline, and technical Brazilian roots set the foundation for everything that followed.
At Palm Beach Atlantic University, Mata competed at the NCAA Division II level on a nationally top-25 ranked program, winning Conference and Regular Season Championships across three seasons. He carried that winning culture into the semi-professional scene — earning a PSL Championship with Palm Beach Stars, competing in the U.S. Open Cup, multiple conference titles and national tournament runs with Tennessee Tempo, Ole FC, and Solaiya FC.
Throughout his career, Mata has been drawn to the highest levels of competition — sharing the pitch with and against MLS players and internationals from Argentina, Brazil, Uganda, Canada, and the Czech Republic. His ability attracted professional attention, including recruitment from a USL Championship club and a club in Horn, Austria. He has also played in international friendlies against River Plate and the Suriname National Team.
Off the pitch, Mata has established himself as a trusted trainer at the professional level — working with players competing in the NWSL and Super League on the women's side, as well as athletes from the MLS and USL Championship. His reach across both the men's and women's professional game speaks to the quality and trust he has built as a coach.
Now channeling all of that into coaching, Mata brings Brazilian technical DNA and a winner's mentality to every session at The Swarm. He currently serves as Varsity Girls Coach at Harpeth Hall and Varsity Boys Coach at Ravenwood High School, while developing players across multiple age groups at the club level.
